Hong Kong is one of the most common areas of myopia worldwide. About 17% of Primary 1 students are shortsighted but the percentage increases to about 53% in Primary 6 students , the high ratio is worrying. The visual system continues to develop after birth and matures by about 8 years of age. Abnormal vision or related abnormalities are harmful to the maturation process. If not corrected, the child's future vision may be reduced.

Good eyesight is particularly important for learning, so children should have a comprehensive eye examination from the age of 3. If vision problem is found, early control and treatment should be made so as not to affect the school or daily life.
